The planned water and air flows in hydronic and ventilation systems have to be balanced with the balancing valves. The purpose of the balancing is to set the pressure differences (resistance) on the control valves (in the case of air-conditioning system, on the shutters) at which the designed flow rate is established on each valve with the tolerance allowed by the standard. During the balancing - in order to ensure economical operation - we strive to keep the pressure differences set on the valves as small as possible, thus ensuring the optimal operation of the pump in the case of a hydronic system and the fan in the case of a ventilation system.

Leaving out the balancing of the system can cause significant increase in operational costs and may cause user complaints, respectively. A typical example of an unbalanced heating system is that the indoor temperature is adequate in rooms close to the boiler and the temperature is below the desired figure in remote rooms, or the temperature is adequate in remote rooms but overheating occurs close to the boiler. This is due to the inadequate distribution of the planned volume flows and the unbalanced nature of the heating system. In the case of ventilation systems, due to the unbalancing, the amount of supplied fresh air may be higher than planned in the rooms close to the ventilation unit, but the fresh air may be less in building parts farther from the air handling unit. Lack of fresh air causes comfort complaints, even concentration problem or headache.

As part of the commissioning, our company makes balancing both hydronic and ventilation systems. We use Tour & Andersson (TA) measuring instrument to balance hydronic systems and KIMO measuring instruments to balance ventilation systems.
